MoinMoin 1.5.0 release

After 9 months of development, we are pleased to announce a major upgrade focused on better usability and farm support.

MoinMoin is an easy to use, full featured and extensible wiki software package written in Python. It can be deployed in various environments from personal use, intranet, and public internet.

Major new features in this release

Better usability, fresh look and feel

There is a new GUI WYSIWYG editor - use carefully, it still has some issues.

The editor screen got a better layout, not showing unnecessary items there, freeing more space for the edited text itself.

We improved header layout of the modern and classic theme. Additionally to the path breadcrumbs (aka "trail"), we now also have location breadcrumbs (see interwiki name, upper page names, current page name in the header area). We also have login and logout links now at the top of the page.

The diffs now have links to the appropriate place in the full page text, so you can see them in full context easily.

And we also switched to a new logo.

Improved farm support

You can share the user_dir between multiple wikis now.

You can optionally display the interwiki name in the header area.

Improved user homepage support

User homepages can live in a separate wiki in your wiki farm. Nice if you have lots of user homepages and don't want them mixed with your content.

Users now get some assistance when they visit their nonexisting homepage for the first time to make creation of it easier.

autoadmin security policy makes it possible to give users admin rights on their homepage and sub pages of it.

Improved international support

Until 1.3.5 we delivered a underlay containing all existing system and help pages in all supported languages.

We now deliver english pages only and if you want more, you have to visit SystemPagesSetup page in your wiki (see also instructions on HelpOnLanguages) to install other language system and help pages from a language package.

Improved authentication

Authentication code is now more modular and supports moin cookie, http auth and SSL client certificates and can be adapted to other auth schemes easily (LDAP, SQL user databases, PHP sessions, external cookies). See MoinMoin.auth module for details.

Moin also can autocreate users now for some authentication methods where it makes sense.

Easier configuration

We improved configuration by changing some defaults and removing rather useless/outdated stuff.

Markup

Added strikethrough support.

Package installer and attachment unzipping

It is now possible to upload a zip file containing attachments and then unzip it by a single click.

A superuser also can install additional plugins / themes etc. with the PackageInstaller.
